DAY 11 REVIEW

Day 11, and Aonishiki finished the job. He calmly forced out Gonoyama for his tenth win — the number that triggers his automatic return to ozeki after just one tournament away, only the eighth such immediate comeback in history and the first since Takakeisho in 2019. 'Winning ten never made me happy before, but this time is special. I'm simply happy,' said the normally unflappable 22-year-old. The day got even better for him: Kotoeiho's nine-bout winning run was ended by Shishi, leaving Aonishiki alone at the top of the race — the ozeki rank recovered, and now the Emperor's Cup within reach. Shishi, by stopping Kotoeiho, kept himself two losses back alongside Kirishima, Takayasu and Takerufuji, who won his head-to-head with Asanoyama. Among the top rankers, Hoshoryu threw down Kotoshoho, while Onosato was pushed out by Atamifuji for yet another loss. Kirishima cruised past Ichiyamamoto and remains two back with four days to run. Nagoya's story now revolves around the 22-year-old from Ukraine.
