DAY 10 REVIEW
Day 10, and Aonishiki would not be stopped. A day after beating Onosato, the 22-year-old took on the other yokozuna, Hoshoryu — a low, sharp charge, a left overarm grip, and a spinning throw that sent the yokozuna to the clay. Back-to-back yokozuna scalps, a ninth win, and — despite visibly dragging his injured left foot — he now stands one win from the ten that would restore him to ozeki. Level with him on one loss is Kotoeiho, who has not lost since opening day: nine straight wins, the latest over Abi with a rare twisting backward knee trip. The unheralded man from Chiba (Sadogatake stable) has fought his way into the heart of the title race. Among the two-loss group, Kirishima forced out Hakunofuji to stay alive, while Asanoyama, Takayasu and Takerufuji all won; Shishi fell to Asahakuryu for a second straight defeat. The yokozuna again went separate ways — Onosato bowled over Daieisho, Hoshoryu took a fourth loss. Heading into the final days, Nagoya is shaping into a two-man race.

Win % = Glicko-2 expected score from each wrestler's latest rating. Shown for Juryo and above only — lower divisions have provisional ratings, so their predictions are unreliable. Bouts listed in fight order (main event last). Start times (~H:MM) are rough estimates based on the standard daily schedule and may shift with the day's pace. Green/red ± figures show the rating change from that bout — the bigger the upset, the bigger the number (provisional during the basho; new wrestlers can swing widely while their rating settles).
