DAY 3 REVIEW
Day 3, and Fujinokawa made history again. Fresh off beating Onosato the day before, the young man pushed down yokozuna Hoshoryu for a second straight kinboshi — reportedly the first post-war wrestler to take a kinboshi in each of his first four bouts against a yokozuna — the last to win four straight over yokozuna was Musashiyama in 1931. For the two yokozuna it has been a bruising open: Hoshoryu suffered his first loss, and while Onosato ended his skid by pushing out Takanosho, he remains in a hole. Out front are the unbeaten men — yokozuna-hopeful ozeki Kirishima, ozeki-chasing sekiwake Aonishiki, sekiwake Atamifuji and Kotoshoho, and veteran Takayasu — spreading the title race from the sanyaku down through the ranks. With both yokozuna stumbling early, Nagoya is shaping up as a wide-open scramble.
