After the middle day Onosato is the only man with one loss, having forced out Takanosho for 7-1. Kotozakura was pushed out by new komusubi Hakunofuji for a second loss; Hakunofuji is 2-6. Kirishima, on a yokozuna run, was forced down by Minoumi for a third loss — all three to maegashira — and is 5-3. Aonishiki forced out Daieisho for 5-3, leaving Daieisho 2-6. Atamifuji thrust down Kotoeiho at the edge and Fujinokawa pushed out Takayasu, so both sekiwake are 6-2. Ura, Asanoyama, Kinbozan and Kotobukinofuji all won to stay 6-2, and with Minoumi, Kotozakura, Atamifuji and Fujinokawa the two-loss group is eight men. Shodai slapped down Asasuiryu for two straight. In juryo Kayo was forced out by Ryuden for his first loss and Kagayaki is 8-0 alone; in makushita Tenshozan is 4-0.
